About Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease of the central nervous system. MS damages or destroys the myelin surrounding the nerves of the CNS and can potentially injure the nerves as well. This damage causes reduced communication between the brain and nerve pathways. MS is not contagious and researchers continue to look for both a cause and a cure.

Common MS symptoms:

  • Overwhelming fatigue;
  • Difficulty with balance and coordination;
  • Depression and cognitive issues;
  • Various levels of impaired mobility;
  • Visual problems;

Many experts estimate that 2.5 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with this disease, and most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 50. As a leading neurological condition among young adults, MS affects more than 400,000 Americans. The support of loved ones, care partners, and organizations is vital to improving the quality of life of those affected by MS. There is no known cause or cure for MS.

What is MS Awareness Month?
MS Awareness Month is designed to promote education and awareness of MS, including what it is and the research ongoing aiming to treat, and eventually cure, MS. Besides learning more about MS, MS Awareness Month is one way people learn how to help raise support for everyone affected by the condition.

How is SmartScoot connected?
SmartScoot is designed to help people with various mobility difficulties have the ability to move around freely and easily. Mobility difficulties can be especially hard to work around when people love travel or lead active lifestyles. SmartScoot’s compact, folding mobility scooter is the answer. SmartScoot was designed by an MS patient with mobility difficulties specifically to meet his expectations in a compact, folding scooter.

He had been diagnosed with MS in his early 30’s. Over the years, his mobility had declined to the extent that he had to rely on his wife to push him in a wheelchair. After purchasing a lightweight scooter that was already available in the market and using it for a year, he felt that, with some innovations, he could design a compact folding scooter that would be much better than other mobility scooter brands or even full-size power chairs. He contacted an engineering colleague and they worked together to create the SmartScoot brand of compact folding scooters. They came up with a folding power scooter that is both better for everyday use and is a better travel scooter.
