Our Story – the team, behind the HandyScoot and SmartScoot Lightweight Travel Mobility Scooters
Our story starts back in 2007 when MS robbed a colleague of his mobility and ability to travel independently. He purchased one of the only lightweight mobility scooters available in the market at that time and used it for about a year. He liked many things about it but thought it could be vastly improved to accommodate the challenges presented by his MS.
He reached out to a couple of engineering and marketing acquaintances with proven track records of product development and market growth. Before long, a prototype was completed from a design that was engineered and created in the USA. The final result was a delicate balance between functionality and weight which was key for the comprehensive roadmap to move forward. The SmartScoot was officially born outside of Chicago, Illinois, in 2011.
In 2015, the SmartScoot moved south after it was sold off to a company in Atlanta, however, some of the original staff stayed on with the acquisition. In 2022, Life Mobility Solutions, maker of the HandyScoot, purchased and brought it back to the Chicagoland area where it happily remains today.
We understand that purchasing a mobility scooter is an investment and we work hard to make sure that all of your needs and concerns are met and addressed. We believe in making high quality products, engineered for years of use. We aren’t the least expensive but we are the best. We are very responsive to questions and requests and strive to exceed your expectations. We strongly support our customers with live US customer service and carry a complete supply of accessories and replacement parts.
We are humbled and honored to hear all the heart warming stories about how the HandyScoot and SmartScoot have enhanced your lives by bringing personal independence back. We appreciate the kind remarks from folks who have found the courage to move outside the walls of their home.
